Part 20
A few days later After White Eagle had been buried Walker was at the grave site. He hadn't left that spot since the burial. He was so lost in thought he didn't hear Sam come up to him until he felt a hand on his shoulder. "Washo. Come on. We need to go. It's going to rain soon. You don't want to get a cold, do you," asked Sam. "I don't care if I get a cold. Nothing matters anymore," said Walker as he kept staring at the grave. "I can't believe you think that. What about your friends? What about Alex? Doesn't she matter anymore," asked Sam. "Yes. She matters, but she probably doesn't want me around anymore, not after what I did to her," said Walker. "It was an accident. It could have happened to anyone," said Sam as he kneeled beside Walker. "I know it hurts to lose White Eagle. It's hurting everyone, but they know they have to move on with their lives. You have to do the same thing," said Sam. "White Eagle meant more to me than anyone will ever know though. He told me if he had a grandson he'd want him to be just like me. He tought of me as his grandson," said Walker as he started crying.
That night Sam got Keith settled into his house. "Are you sure I'm not intruding," asked Walker. "Yes. I'm very sure. You are welcomed into my house. You know that. Come on. Let's get some food into and then you can get a good night's rest," said Sam as he started cooking. "That sounds good to me," said Walker as he set the table. "The food smells good," said Walker. "Thanks. I'm learning," said Sam with a laugh. "Well, let's see if it tastes as good as it smells," said Walker as he put some food on his plate and started eating. "So, how is it," asked Sam. "It's pretty good, but I've had better chili," said Walker with a chuckle. "Let me guess. C.D.'s chili," said Sam. "Of course. He does have the best chili," said Walker as he kept eating.
The next morning Sam was up bright and early. He thought he would see Walker already up, but when he got to the kitchen he didn't see him there. He then went to the guest bedroom and saw that Walker wasn't there either. "He's gone off to the Badlands," thought Sam as he hurried up dressing and gone out the door. He went to the judge to see if he had seen Walker. "Judge! Have you seen Washo," asked Sam. "No. Not since we buried White Eagle," said the judge. "He was staying at my house last night and when I got up this morning he wasn't there. I think he might have gone off to the badlands," said Sam. "I'll gather up some of the men from council and we'll help you look for him," said the judge.

Sorry for the delay. I started school a couple of weeks ago and I don't have a laptop at the moment, but here's an update for ya!
Part 21
Twenty minutes later the judge met up with Sam with members from the tribal council. "We'll keep in touch by these walkie-talkies. If you see any signs of Washo contact one of us," said the judge. "Let's get going. The sooner we start looking the faster we'll find Washo," said Sam. So they all split up and started searching for Walker. "I thought for sure I was getting through to him. There's no telling how far into the badlands he's gotten," thought Sam. "Sam. Come in," said a voice on the Walkie Talkie. "Sam here," responded Sam. "I think I might have found something," said Gray Wolf. "Okay. I'll get in contact with the others and we'll meet you," said Sam.
"Washo's tracks. If he headed the way I think he did, he's gonna run into a wolf's den. We have to hurry and find him before the wolves do," said Sam. "Isn't there a cave about two miles up from here where a mixed breed wolf lives," asked Billy. "You're right Billy. I think the wolf might have mated. I've seen some baby wolves that look like they might have some dog in them," said Sam. So they got back on their horses and started north towards the wolve's den.
Meanwhile Walker was lying on the ground from not eating anything since he had left Sam's house last night. The only thing Walker had taken with him was a knife to get food to eat, but he hadn't used it expect to cut his wrists. He was lying still until he heard something approaching him. He looked up to see what it was and saw a wolf coming towards him. The wolf was showing his teeth and growling at Walker. He thought Walker was there to hurt his family that was living in a nearby cave. Walker stared at the wolf to show him he wasn't gonna hurt him. Soon the wolf stopped showing his teeth and growling. The wolf came up to Walker and licked his hand. Walker patted the wolf on his head. "You're different. You're not all wolf are you," said Walker.
"Did you hear that? It sounded like a wolf. Washo must be near the wolves' den," said Sam. "You're probably right. Let's go," said Billy. When they got where the wolves were staying they saw the mixed breed wolf laying near something. As they approached the wolf got up and started growling at them. "We're not gonna hurt you. We came to find a friend," said Sam as he talked to the wolf. Billy got a good look at what the wolf had been laying near. "Sam. It's Washo. He's hurt. I bet the wolf did it," said Billy. "We need to get him away from here," said the judge. The wolf finally stopped growling at Sam. He then went up to Sam and nudge his hand. Sam followed the wolf to where Walker was laying down.
The wolf never left Walker's side as Sam bandaged up Walker's wounds. Once in a while the wolf would lick Walker's face as if he were trying to wake him up. Walker started to stir some. He felt something going around his wrists. He tried to see who was with him besides the wolf. He felt a hand on his shoulder pushing him back to lay down. "It's okay Washo. It's just Sam trying to cover your wounds up," said Billy. Walker gave a slight nod. He lifted up one of his hands trying to find the wolf. The wolf came up to Walker and licked his hand. Satisfied that Sam and the others hadn't killed the wolf, Walker fell back asleep.
An hour later Walker woke up. "Good to see awake Washo," said the judge. "Where am I," asked Walker as he tried to sit up. "You're at the clinic on the reservation. Don't try to sit up. You've lost a lot of blood from your wounds," said the judge. "The wolf? Where is he," asked Walker. "He's by your side. Hasn't left your side since we found you," said the judge. "Hey Washo! You're awake," said Sam as he and Billy walked up to his bedside. "Hey you two. I'm glad you didn't kill the wolf. He saved my life," said Walker. "We know. Did you cut yourself," asked Sam. "Yes. I know. It was stupid of me. Have either of you gotten in touch with Alex," asked Walker. "Yes. She and Trivette are on their way as we speak," said Billy.
Thirty minutes later Alex and Trivette were at the reservation. "Hey Sam," said Alex as she hugged him. "Hi Alex. Trivette. Walker is awake if you want to see him," said Sam. "Yes. That would be nice," said Alex as she and Trivette followed Sam to the clinic. "He's all the way at the end on your left. I would stay, but I got a job to do. I'll see you later," said Sam as he left. "Hey man. You're looking pretty good," said Trivette as he and Alex walked up to Walker's bedside. "Hey. It's good to see the both of you," said Walker with a smile. "We missed you too. Who's your friend," asked Alex as she pointed to the wolf. "He saved my life when I went out into the badlands. I haven't thought of a name for him yet," said Walker. "He's a wolf. You're going to give a wild animal a name," asked Trivette in shock. "He's not that wild. He's part dog, part wolf. And yes I'm going to give him a name," said Walker.

Part 22
A few days later Walker was able to leave the clinic. "It's good to be up and about," said Walker as he, Alex, and Trivette walked around town. "I bet. I can't believe that wolf is still following you around. Are you going to keep him," asked Trivette. "I thought about it. If he wants to stay at the ranch I'll keep him," said Walker. "He doesn't have mate," asked Alex. "Yeah. He has a mate. I think she's still at the cave. I'm gonna go out and see if she is," said Walker. "You're not going out there today are you," asked Alex. "Yes. If I don't some animal could kill her. She's just a dog," said Walker. "A dog," asked Trivette in shock. "Yeah," said Walker as he continued walking.
The next morning Walker, Alex, and Trivette were up and ready to go back home. "It was good seeing you Washo. Next time you come here don't do anything stupid," said Sam. "I promise I won't do anything stupid like that again. Billy. It was good seeing you too. Maybe next time I have off I'll come down here and do a spirit ride with you," said Walker as he hugged Billy. "Sounds good Washo. Alex. Trivette. Keep Washo out of trouble," said Billy with a laugh. After they all said their goodbyes Walker, Alex, and Trivette drove off. Alex rode with Walker on the way back. The dog and mixed breed wolf were riding with Walker and Alex.
"Hey. Walker. Come in," said Trivette. "What Trivette," said Walker. "You owe me and Alex big time," said Trivette. "Why," asked Walker. "Cause we covered for your sorry butt. That's why," said Trivette. "No way. I told the captain where and how long I'd be gone," said Walker. "Man! I don't like you anymore," said Trivette. Walker and Alex just laughed. "Will let me drive now," asked Walker. "Yeah," said Trivette. "He's something else. He thought he could get one over you," said Alex while laughing. "Yeah. He should know by now he can't. He's determined one of these days that he's gonna make me tap out when we workout," said Walker.
When Walker pulled up to the ranch he got out and went to the barn. "Hey Amigo. Hey Angel. Did you two miss me," asked Walker as he petted their heads. "Amigo missed you dearly. He's very happy that you're home. He's not the only one who's happy that you're home," said Alex. "I'm surprised you came down to the reservation with Trivette. I thought you might want to stay away from me for a while," said Walker as he made sure all his horses were in good shape. "I was so worried about you. I felt something was wrong while you were gone. I didn't know what it was, but I knew it was something bad," said Alex. "White Eagle died. That and I cut my wrists," said Walker. "I had a bad feeling while you were with White Eagle. I felt your pain I guess you could say," said Alex as she walked up to Walker.
"Did I tell you what White Eagle told me the night he died," asked Walker in a soft voice. "No. I don't think you did," said Alex. "He told me if he had a grandson he'd want him to be like me. I think White Eagle thought of me as his grandson," said Walker as he faced Alex. He had tears in his eyes. "I'm sure he did. I know you looked up to him. He may not be here in body, but he lives within you in spirit," said Alex as she wiped his tears away. "Thanks. You always know what to say to make me see things in a different light," said Walker with a smile. "I would think I can make you happy. Now, come on. It's freezing out here," said Alex with a laugh.
A few weeks later everything was back to normal. "Hey Walker. We got a hit on the Garcia brothers," said Trivette. "It's about time. How long have we been tracking these guys," asked Walker as he grabbed his coat and hat. "Six months," said Trivette as he grabbed his coat and followed Walker out the door. "I knew they were bound to slip up sometime. I can't wait to get these guys off the streets," said Walker. "Same here. There's the place," said Trivette. "Okay. Let's call for backup. You take the front I'll take the back," said Walker as he got out of the truck. Trivette made his presence known and the bullets started flying as backup arrived on the scene. "Where's Walker," asked a DPS officer. "He went around back," said Trivette. So the DPS officer took some of his men around back.
When the DPS officers got around back they saw Walker laying on the ground unconscious. "Call for a medivac chopper," yelled the head DPS officer. The other officers searched the area for any of Garcia's men. "Walker. Hang in there. You're gonna be okay," said the DPS officer. Walker stirred some and tried to open his eyes. "Don't try to move Walker," said the DPS officer. "Rick? Is that you," asked Walker. "Yeah. It's me. Hang in there. Help is on the way," said Rick. "Trivette," said Walker. "He's okay," said Rick as he tried to stop the bleeding. "Walker," yelled Trivette as he saw his partner and friend on the ground. "What happened," asked Trivette. "Ambushed," said Walker as he tried to stay awake. "Don't worry. You're gonna be okay," said Trivette. "If anyone says that one more time I'm hurting them," said Walker.
An hour later Walker was at Methodist Hospital. Trivette called Alex and told her what happened. They were now waiting to hear Walker condition. "Ranger Trivette," said the doctor as he walked up to Trivette and Alex. "How is he doc," asked Trivette. "Walker is a lucky man. If that stab wound had been an inch lower he wouldn't be here right now. We stopped the bleeding for now. He's stable, but he's in a coma. I wish I had better news for you. If you want, you can see him for a little while. I'll take you to see him," said the doctor. "Thank you doc," said Trivette as he and Alex walked into the room. "Oh Jimmy. He's so pale," said Alex on the verge of tears. "I know he is, but we got to be strong for him. He's gonna make it," said Trivette. "You're right. He is gonna make it. He's gotten through worse," said Alex as she held Walker's hand.
