Part 16
"Hello. Walker. Alex. I bet you're anxious to get these casts off," said the doctor. "You have no idea. I'll be able to scratch my legs without using a coat hanger," said Alex as she laughed. The doctor just laughed at her. "Okay. Let's see about getting these casts off and getting you on your way," said the doctor. "Thanks doctor," said Alex. "I'm sure you know you'll be weak after the casts come off so I don't want you doing anything strenuous," said the doctor. "Okay. I'm sure my self-appointed guardian will make sure I won't do anything strenuous," said Alex with a smile. "You got that right. I'm keeping you on a short leash," said Walker laughingly as Alex hit him in the shoulder for the remark.
Thirty minutes later Walker and Alex were on the road. "I want to go to C.D.'s. I haven't seen him or Jimmy in what seems like forever," said Alex. "Are you sure? You just got your casts taken off. Don't you think you should rest for a few days," asked Walker worriedly. "You worry too much. I have the crutches still. I can walk with those until my leg strengthens up more," said Alex with a smile on her face. "Okay. If you're sure, we'll go to C.D.'s and visit him," said Walker defeatedly. "I knew you'd see it my way, Cowboy," said Alex with a big smile on her face. "You just know me too well. You know how and when to push my buttons, but then again I know how to do the same thing," said Walker confidently.
Fifteen minutes later they arrived at C.D.'s. "Alex! Cordell! It's good to see ya'll. Jimmy here was getting worried about you two. I told him ya'll would be alright," said C.D. "Yeah. We just came from doctors. I got my casts off which I am thankful for! I was going crazy with them on. I was using coat hangers to scratch when I itched," said Alex with a giggle. "Yeah. You should have seen it. It was comical. I did take a few pictures," said Walker with an evil grin on his face. "You did not! I don't believe you," said Alex shocked. "Yeah I did. You didn't know I was watching you so I thought I'd take a few pictures of you," said Walker. "You better not show them around or else," threatened Alex. "Or else what," asked Walker. "I'll show pictures of you watching cartoons," said Alex challengingly.
A couple of nights later Walker was laying in bed fast asleep. "You don't deserve her. You're not good enough for her. You just let her go. She'll never be yours." "Shut up! You're wrong! I am good enough for her! She will be mine!" "She'll never be yours! Let her go! You'll hurt her again!"[/i] "No!" Walker sat up panting and breathing hard. He had sweat all over his body. "It was just a dream. That's all it was. Just a dream," Walker kept telling himself. "I'm not going to let her go. She will be my wife. I just know it," thought Walker to himself as he got up and went into the bathroom. When Walker went back into his bedroom he saw it was almost time for him to get up so he got dressed and headed downstairs. "I should go see White Eagle and ask him to help me. I want these nightmares to stop," thought Walker to himself.

AWWWUH!!! very cute, comical chapter. until the end. but i liked it. does anyone know if it hurts to get casts off? i've never had them on. i've had stiches twice, surgery once, sprained wrists several times, sprained ankle a few times, sliced my leg open real good once, jammed 2 toes once, jammed several fingers over the years ..but my bones stay together LOL! i've always wondered what it's like to have a cast &have it off. although, i can imagine the itching. i wasn't allowed to take the ace bandage off after i had surgery. because off all the padding they'd put in there to control the bleeding. but man i itched i would cry with itching. HAHAHA.. on the real though, some one get back to me about that cast thing.

Ana....It doesn't hurt getting a cast off. I've had on a cast a few times. It does feel weird after you've gotten it off though.
Anyways, On with the story!!!
Part 17
An hour later Walker decided to call into work and take some time off to clear his mind. "Trivette." "Hey. It's Walker. I'm taking some time off to get my head clear of these thoughts I've been having lately. I'll be gone for at least a week. Think you can handle it without me there," asked Walker. "Yeah. Sure. You're going to see White Eagle aren't you," asked Trivette. "Yeah. I am. I'll see you when I get back," said Walker. "Bye," said Trivette as he hung up the phone. "Alex Cahill." "Hey Alex. I just called to tell you I'll be gone for a little while. I'm going to see White Eagle. I'll be gone for at least a week," said Walker. "Okay. I'll be waiting for you when you come home. I love you," said Alex. "I love you too. Bye," said Walker as he hung up the phone and got ready to go.
"Washo! Good to see you again," said Sam Coyote as he walked up to Walker and hugged him. "It's nice to see you too. I see the Reservation's still standing," said Walker with a little laugh. "Yeah. Remember Tommy and the others from Team Cherokee," asked Sam. "Yeah," said Walker. "They are in the run for the Championship this year," said Sam with a smile. "That's great! How are Tommy and his wife? I know when I helped them out she was pregnant," said Walker. "She had a little girl. Name is Sarah Bright Feathers. She's just like her mom," said Sam as he and Walker unloaded the horses. "I bet she is. I'm sure glad Tommy and his team are doing great. I'm sure they are too. Is White Eagle still at the same spot," asked Walker. "Yes. He still is. I think he is getting ready to cross the river though. He's been getting more sick these days. One of the doctors on the reservation said he only has a few months to live maybe," said Sam sadly. "I'm sad to hear that. Hopefully he'll be able to help me out this one last time before he crosses the river," said Walker sadly.
Soon Walker got to Bitter Water. He let Amigo graze around for a little while. While Amigo walked around a little Walker gatherd up some sticks to make a fire so he could get something to eat. Once he had a fire going he sought out his dinner. He quietly approached his prey and threw his knife, killing the rattle snake. Once he had his dinner he cleaned it, cut it, and ate it. "Washo. It is good to see you again," came a voice from behind. Walker turned around and saw White Eagle. "Hi White Eagle. It's nice to see you again. Sam Coyote told me about you being sick. I am sorry to hear that," said Walker. "Do not be. It is a part of the great circle of life," said White Eagle. "Yes. I know, but it still saddens me to know you'll be crossing the river soon. There were many times when I was a child that I wanted to cross the river and be with my parents," said Walker.

Part 18
"Hey Alex. What brings you in here," asked Trivette as he turned in Alex's direction. "I didn't know if Walker told you or not that he was leaving to see White Eagle," said Alex as she sat on the edge of Trivette's desk. "Yeah. He told me. I hope White Eagle can help him out. He told me he was taking off to get his head clear of thoughts he's been having lately," said Trivette. "He didn't tell me that. Just said he was going to see White Eagle and that he'll be gone for a little while. I think I know what thoughts he's talking about. A few days after he took me to his ranch he had a nightmare about voices telling him he didn't deserve me, that he'll hurt me again, and to just let me go. Walker was really upset over it," said Alex with a sad look to her face.
"I remember those times, but you have gotten past that. Something else is weighing on your heart. Tell me," said White Eagle. "I made Alex mad by asking the D.A. to let her have some time off and to give the case she was handling to someone else. I'm sure she told you that. When I was on my way here I had a crash. I had crashed into Alex's car. She was hurt real bad. After she woke up and was able to be released I let her stay at the ranch. A few days after she had been staying there I asked her to marry me and she said no because she said I was proposing for the wrong reasons. She said I proposed to her because I was afraid of losing her. She was right. Anyways, I started having thses nightmares with this voice telling me I didn't deserve Alex, that' I"ll hurt her again, and to just let her go. At first I ignored it, but then I started to believe what the voice was telling me. I don't know what to do White Eagle," said Walker with a sigh.
"Don't worry. White Eagle will be able to help him," said Trivette trying to comfort Alex. "I know, but I didn't make things any better between me and Walker. A week before I got my casts off he proposed to me, but I declined. I told him he proposed to me because he was afraid he was gonna lose me. As much as I would love to marry him, I can't unless we marry for the right reasons," said Alex. "Is there a chance you two could still get married," asked Trivette. "I don't know. I would like to think there is a chance still, but who knows with Walker," said Alex with a sigh.
A few days past and no one had heard from Walker since he left. Sam had called Alex to tell her that he did make it to the Reservation alright, but that he hadn't seen or heard from him since he went to see White Eagle. "Please call me when you do see him," said Alex as she sat in her office. "I will. I'm sure he's just fine. Hopefully White Eagle is able to help him," said Sam. "Thanks. I'll talk to you later," said Alex as she hung up the phone. "Hey Alex," said Phil as he walked into Alex's office. "Hey Phil," said Alex weakly. "Still no word from Walker," asked Phil. "No. Still no word. Maybe I am overreacting. I don't know. Something just doesn't feel right and I hate those feelings. They're usually right," said Alex.

part 19
"White Eagle. Are you okay," asked Walker as he noticed White Eagle's breathing had changed. "I am fine Washo," said White Eagle as he sat down. "You're not fine. We need to get you to a doctor," said Walker with concern. "No. I will not go to any doctors. This is my fate Washo. You knew that when you came here," said White Eagle as he put a hand on Walker's shoulder. "I know, but I just don't want to lose you. I have looked up to you for many years and the thought of losing you saddens me. I know you told me not to be sad, but I can't help it," said Walker as tears started rolling down his cheeks. "You worry too much about others and not much about yourself. Go back to Alex. She is the one who can help you," said White Eagle. "No. I won't leave you here to die alone. I don't want to leave you here. Please let me stay. I know it goes against tradition, but you are the closest thing I have to a Cherokee relative," pleaded Walker.
"We can call Sam and ask him if he knows anything," said Trivette. "That's a great idea! I hope he knows something," said Alex with some hope. "Sam," said Sam as he answered his phone. "Hey Sam. It's Trivette. Have you heard from Walker yet," asked Trivette. "Yes. He's doing okay. Said he should be back in town in a day or two," said Sam. "That's good to hear. We just wanted to konw if you heard anything 'cause we haven't. Alex said she had a bad feeling so that's why I called," said Trivette. "The only thing bad here is White Eagle is dying. Washo is upset about it. Maybe she can tell that he's upset," said Sam.
"This is against my better judgement, but I will allow you to stay here. You know, if I had a grandson I would want him to be just like you. You are very loyal, kind, and caring towards others. You are very honorable just like your father. He would be very proud of you," said White Eagle. "I know he would. I've had dreams of him telling me he's proud of me, but that's usually after he tells me I'm stubborn. Ha. Ha," said Walker with a light laugh. "Yes. You can be stubborn, but your heart is in the right place though. That is what makes you the man you are today," said White Eagle. "Thanks. That means a lot to me. I guess we should get some sleep. Night White Eagle," said Walker as he went over to his bedroll and got ready for bed. The last thing Walker remembered before he fell asleep was White Eagle chanting.
Early the next morning Walker woke up and noticed there was a blanket over him. He sat up and looked over to where White Eagle was sitting. He was sitting Indian style with his head bowed. Walker went over to him to see if he was breathing. He found no pulse and knew White Eagle had crossed the river. "I'm gonna miss you White Eagle," said Walker in a whispered voice as he carefully laid White Eagle down. He gathered up his things and headed back to town to tell everyone that White Eagle had passed on. Walker had cried the whole way back to town. "Washo. It's White Eagle, isn't it," asked Sam. "Yes. He crossed the river. We have to tell everyone," said Walker as he tried not to cry. Sam had gathered everyone up so that Walker could tell them about White Eagle. "White Eagle has crossed the river. He's making his journey to the great campfire in the sky," said Walker as best as he could without crying.
